Many believe that the opposite of ‘love‘ is ‘hate’, but if you think about what actually keeps you from acting on feelings of love, you’ll realize that it usually has nothing to do with hatred and a lot more to do with fear. When you love someone and choose not to tell them, it’s not because you hate them, it’s because you’re afraid that they won’t feel the same way. When you feel that your music isn’t worth listening to or that you don’t deserve to be on the stage, it’s not because you hate your music or hate performing, it’s because you’re scared that it’s not good enough or that you’ll do badly.
Fear pulls us further from the things we love because it is the opposite of love. Hatred is more like the absence of it… something that comes to be when love is corrupted or destroyed, sometimes by fear, sometimes by other things. Hatred is also occasionally something we use to keep ourselves from loving. It is a shield that keeps good things away; a shield made of anger, usually at ourselves.
Love is a beautiful thing that everyone should open their hearts to. Let love into your life and let it grow. Don’t be afraid! Fear prevents you from discovering your heart’s true desires and the true impact of every moment in life. Love, on the other hand, gives you the power to hold the very essence of each moment right in your hands. It is much easier to let fear obstruct you from the things you love, but in the end, fear always leaves you empty-handed.
Live in the light of love, and you’ll be fine. Live in fear, and you’ll barely get by.
